5 Tricks to Sell Your Textbooks in Under 24 Hours

The Problem With Most Listings

Most textbooks listed on second-hand marketplaces sit unsold for weeks โ€” not because no one wants them, but because the listing doesn't inspire confidence in the buyer.

Here are five things that actually move books fast.

1. Take Photos in Natural Light

Photos taken under a yellow bulb or in a dark room immediately signal "untrustworthy listing." Walk to a window. Place the book on a white or light-coloured surface. Take 3โ€“4 shots โ€” front cover, back cover, spine, and a few pages inside to show condition honestly.

Buyers who can clearly see the book's condition don't hesitate. Those who can't will move on to the next listing.

2. Price It at 40โ€“55% of MRP (Not Lower)

Counterintuitively, pricing too low makes buyers suspicious. A book priced at โ‚น80 when the MRP is โ‚น800 makes people think something is wrong with it.

The sweet spot is 40โ€“55% of MRP for good condition, 30โ€“40% for fair. Set a realistic price and mention you're open to offers โ€” this gets you more inquiries than rock-bottom pricing.

3. Write an Honest Condition Description

"Good condition" means nothing. "Minimal highlighting in first 3 chapters, no torn pages, spine intact" means everything. Specificity builds trust and pre-qualifies buyers โ€” you'll get fewer time-wasters.

4. List Between 6โ€“9 PM

Students browse their phones in the evenings. Listings posted between 6 PM and 9 PM get significantly more views in the first two hours โ€” and first-day visibility is everything on most platforms.

5. Enable Offers

Don't set a fixed price and ignore messages. Enabling the Make Offer feature on ReRead means buyers who want to negotiate can do so without DMing you first. Accepted offers convert faster than listings with "no negotiation" in the description.

Follow these five steps on your next listing and you'll rarely need to wait more than 24 hours.
